Almost Killed

Yesterday I almost got killed by a dickhead. I suppose i survived coz my brains are in my head and not in my dickhead.
I was riding down a main road and this loony bin of a car driver decided to cut across from one of the side streets without looking to see if there was any traffic. Basic traffic sense is to look both sides before proceeding. This chap was looking only one side while i had to honk a couple of times before he braked in time. Would have been driven over otherwise. The law states that traffic on the main road has priority while the side streets have to wait. The law doesnt state how in hades it gives driving licenses to people like this 'dh' and what happens to the cop who issued it. All swept under the carpet. Life goes on as usual. We are like this only!

reservation

The reservation debate is never going to die down. Not as long as we have the caste system and politicians in India.
Why is the 1st family in a tizzy at what the young chap said? He was spot on when he said "both sides have valid points to buttress their claim".
I feel the only way is to make education free and compulsory. The FM allocates zillions towards defence in his annual budget, im sure the govt can spare a few crumbs towards implementing it.
And last but not the least, please for Gods sake, when are we going to stop judging people by their caste or religion ? Isnt competence and effort more important?

politicians

An uncle of mine had dropped by from the US of A for a few days to touch base. A debate started during the course of our conversation on politicians there and here in India.
It graduated to which political party was better suited to govern our country. An argument ensued where all and sundry joined in with their own takes.
On hindsight each political party has its own strengths and inadequacies. If someone is fundamentalist, another is corrupt and yet another would like to shut your shop down. Like choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea. I did contemplate the thought of martial law being imposed to bring out some semblence of discipline in the way we run our lives. No more swalpa adjust maadi. The thought is rosy and scary. Who wants to go the way of Pakistan??? Not me.

Religion

Almost all religions (at least 80-90%) preach that their religion is the only true one which will grant you salvation/moksha/whatchamacallit and if you dont beleive in that particular religion you will go to hell.
Using the above theory since no individual can belong to all/multiple religions at the same time, logically no matter how many times you pray or rather which God you pray to, you are going to hell anyways.
So to hell with religion. Simply Enjoy Maadi!

random jottings

What's happening to this dear city of mine? Wasn't born here but grew up in its tree lined lanes. When the only cars that existed were premier padminis and ambassadors. So few and far in between. The only t.v. was lousy govt. controlled doordarshan. Going for a movie was an outing in itself. Balcony ticket at Rex or Blumoon was just 10 bucks. Still remember seeing mist at 10 am in the morning on 100' road Indiranagar in the spring of '84. Today all you can see is trees being cut, cars, bikes, lorries, autos, BTS buses pumping out monoxide. Gosh! If I was a traffic cop I could have earned a daily revenue of 3-5 lakhs for the govt just by fines. Bangalore has lost its charm. The price of blind materialistic progress.
